Back to "reality" ✌🏻❤🇿🇦 ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• I've been back home in CapeTown for the past week laying low and enjoying a slower pace of life. I wake up every morning SO excited for this new chapter in my life and feeling unbelievably blessed for the incredible friends and support system I have here and around the world. My first African safari at gondwanagr 🐘🦁🦏 ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• I surprised my mom with a 2 night stay at the Gondwana Game Reserve -- it's her first trip to South Africa and it's both of our first safaris! This reserve is only a 4 hour drive from Cape Town and is home to the "Big 5!" In just one afternoon, elephants came straight up to our lodge and on our evening safari we saw zebra, white rhinos, a cheetah and countless other animals. Fingers crossed for lions, giraffes and buffalo tomorrow! (PS- LOTS of goodies on my insta story from today -- check it out!) ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• gondwana

The first 48 hours in Morocco... ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Marrakech has been a rush of the senses. Between dodging motorbikes and donkey-drawn carriages, finding my way through the twists and turns of spice souks and brushing off aggressive encounters with vendors, this city has woken up a part of me that I haven't felt in years. Culture shock doesn't come easy after 6 years of continuous travel, yet Marrakech has been uncomfortable. I don't mean that I feel unsafe or scared. It just hasn't been "easy." I can't share every experience on Instagram, however travel is far from the picture perfect images we see here (and what I'm guilty of sharing nearly every day). Travel is about those uncomfortable moments like missing a train, getting caught in the rain or having nothing go to plan. It's also about the joyous moments we feel like tasting a local dish for the first time, stumbling upon a beautiful market or smiling with a complete stranger regardless of language, race or religion. It's why we continue to explore, to stay curious, and to desire experiences that are far from the familiar. ❤ •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

This used to be the main entrance to La Mamounia when it opened back in 1923. I love how the hotel mixes Arabic-Andalusian architecture and Art Deco style. I usually give up because I'm too cold or tired 🤦🏼‍♀️ The stars in the Sahara are SO bright you could shoot them without a long exposure. But, I couldn't figure out how to capture our beautiful camp at desertluxurycamp and the stars without overexposing the lanterns. Dating back to the 17th century, it was named a UNESCO World Heritage site for being one of the best preserved examples of ancient architecture in all of Morocco. This was before we spent about 2 hours exploring the entire site and melting in the heat 🔥 😰 •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

This magical little house, tucked away in an unassuming alley corner, seemed like something dreamt up by JK Rowling. In the early hours of the morning, I watched the windows, imagining a house elf would appear but, instead, a cheerful man stuck his head out and smiled. The colorful layers of Fes 🇲🇦 ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Visiting the 11th century leather tannery in Fes was one of the most interesting experiences I had in Morocco. Lucky for me, I had a serious sinus cold so I couldn't smell the full "aroma" that filled the air. As you entered one of the leather shops surrounding the tannery, you were handed a sprig of mint 🌿 to mask the smell of animal hide, dye and pigeon guano 💩 baking under the hot sun ☀️. If you can handle the smell, it's a fascinating look into the harsh conditions these people work in (and have been working in for almost 1000 years). While seemingly beautiful, the reality is pretty hard to stomach. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
